What an Agtron Coffee Color Number?
The Agtron Coffee Color Number is a standardized measurement used to describe how light or dark a coffee roast is, based on the color of the roasted beans or ground coffee.
Lower Agtron numbers indicate darker roasts, while higher numbers indicate lighter roasts, helping roasters and coffee drinkers communicate roast level consistently and objectively.
Numbers and their Roast Category (lightest to darkest):
• 95: Very Light (very pale roast with high acidity and pronounced origin flavors)
• 85: Light (light brown, bright acidity, floral or fruity notes)
• 75: Moderately Light (balanced acidity, some sweetness and body)
• 65: Light-medium (balanced profile with more sweetness, moderate body)
• 55: Medium (medium brown, more body, caramel sweetness)
• 45: Medium-dark/Full City (stronger roast flavors, less acidity, heavier body)
• 35: Dark (dark brown with smoky, bittersweet notes)
• 25: Very Dark (very deep roast with minimal acidity, charred or smoky note)
Storage
Coffee is best stored at room temperature in a dry, dark place in an airtight container. Our Lardera packaging is the perfect way to store your coffee beans!
Shelf Life
Coffee is best consumed as close to its roast date as possible (found on our packaging), and will hold optimal flavor within six months of the roast date. This is why we always small-batch roast our coffee to ensure your order is sent at the peak of freshness.
