Pour Over vs Wood Collar Coffee Makers

I don’t know if you grew up with video games, but maybe the word “Tekken” rings a bell?

How about Mortal Combat? (Soul Calibur? Dead or Alive? Marvel Versus Capcom?)

If nothing else, at least Super Smash Brothers should resonate.

Fighting games aren’t just all lights and crashing sounds, though. They’re a test of individual skill—the ability of each player to do their best and show off what makes them a talented player. (Assuming they aren’t the type to just mash buttons, of course! We’re talking about quality players who put effort into strategy, timing, and memorizing the perfect combination to knock bars off the opponent’s HP like a gosh darn champion.)

Today we’re talking about two major players from Lardera: the Pour-Over Coffeemaker versus the Wood Collar Coffeemaker.

They might look similar, but don’t be fooled by first impressions! Don’t worry, we’re here to help break down the differences in this epic battle. Let’s look over the stats for each, and it’ll be up to you to figure out who’s the winner—or who you personally prefer for your individual coffee-making needs!

Remember, everyone has different priorities and preferences for how they like to do coffee, and different constraints around the amount of time they have for making coffee during the day. That’s why it’s so awesome how many options that Lardera offers for all these various individuals and situations! A little bit of a spoiler for this battle: as long as you’re drinking coffee—especially if it’s a delicious variety like the Tipica Honey, one of our favorites!—everybody wins.

Ready?

Fight!

Pour-Over Coffeemaker: How’s this for a sleek specimen?

If you’re new to coffee, then you might be used to the most low key or low maintenance of options. Totally understandable! Especially if you’re working with truly wonderful beans, there can be some anxiety around proper brewing techniques or procedures. But luckily for all of us, pour-over coffee is super easy, accessible, and incredibly user-friendly to both new and less-new brewers alike!

The Pour-Over Coffeemaker

It's is made of borosilicate glass, which is amazing right off the bat because as we mentioned just now, if you’re worried about making mistakes, then it’s super forgiving. It can handle your cat accidentally bumping into it on the counter, or your significant other trying valiantly to clean it in the sink and whoops— no worries, it’s dishwasher safe as well. (Just make sure that you have a good soap, which you’d want for any eating or drinking utensil, right?)

The shape is also super important. You’ll notice that both this piece and its sister the Wood Collar are developed with a distinct funnel-cone top where you load the beans and pour the water on top to allow it to brew. This cone shape is essential because it ensures optimal filtration of the beans.

Coffee isn’t like dime store tea, in the sense that you can’t just let the beans hang out in a bunch of boiling water and call it a day. There’s a bit more nuance to it, in the best way. You want to make sure that the hot water can pass through the beans evenly and effectively, and the Pour-Over Coffeemaker’s intelligent design enables that process to happen without you needing to worry about calibrating your own technique.

(Unless you have dreams of entering one of those fancy barista competitions. In which case, best of luck! You never know if Barista Death Battle is going to be the next hit reality show on Netflix. Here’s hoping, of course, that no actual death is involved. We’re still in it for the coffee!)

Wood Collar Coffeemaker

This one is for a slightly different aesthetic, more than anything else.

You might be a little more experienced now at coffee-making. You might start to have your own favorite set of beans—have you tried the Geisha Caturra Washed, speaking of?—and you might have developed some further preferences about how and where you like your coffee.

And now you want to show off.

That’s where the Wood Collar Coffeemaker really shines!

Just look at it. That stylish neck, the delightful way it curves and melds around its spot on your table or serving countertop.

Maybe the answer here isn’t to pit (No, not the Smash Brothers Pitt!) these coffee-making players against each other. They’re both a means to your delicious drink ends. Maybe what’s really going on here isn’t a player-versus-player battle, but a showcase of two individual pieces who are total experts at what they do for different reasons.

At the end of the day, what matters is that you get to enjoy a cup of coffee that really makes a difference in making your day that much better. Whether you’re in it to brew a sleek, modern cup or a couture mug of Joe, then Lardera has you covered no matter what your playing style is.
